Konjac Sponges are created in Japan using roots of the konyakku plant, a food staple for more than 1,500 years in Asian cultures. The vegetable fibers are purified and spun into a puff that is incredibly water-retentive. When used, there is a water barrier between sponge and skin which means it cleanses without scratching or irritating, making it perfect for facial care. This konjac puff cleans so gently it’s even used on babies’ tender skins. We are loving using this konjac sponge!
First use: Soak the Konjac Facial Sponge in warm water for 10-15 minutes until it puffs up and rehydrates. It will expand about 50% and be soft and squishy like sponge cake.
Never twist or wring the sponge. To squeeze out excess water, press the Konjac Facial Sponge between the palms of your hands.
Daily use: Soak briefly in warm water to rehydrate. To use the sponge, wet it and then make a small lather with your favorite facial bar. If you wish, you may also use the sponge alone without any cleanser. Rub in circular motions to remove dirt from the pores without scratching the skin. Your face will love it.
Rinse completely, then press between palms to remove excess water. Hang up to dry between uses, with the included string hanger. You may also place the sponge on a soap deck to keep it dry between uses.
After 3 months you should probably replace the sponge. If you see mold or bacteria growth, do not use the sponge. Some users have boiled it in water to sterilize it, or microwaved it in hot water to sterilize. We have not tried this technique and haven’t needed to by keeping it dry between uses.
